Cheap flights to Dakar-The African Horn in Atlantic-

From a relatively small industry at the introduction of the first Club Med resort in the 1970s, Tourism has grown to be an important part of the Senegales economy. Since the 1990s, Senegal has made an effort to reach beyond visitors from the former colonial power France, in part motivated by the example of neighbouring Gambia which draws a relatively larger tourist share from Northern Europe and the Americas to its Banjul coastal resorts. In 2008, Senegal’s foreign tourist visitors had reached one million, attracted to luxury beach resorts, natural and historic sites. The return rate for visitors stood at around 30% in 2008.Future projections and bookings announced in 2009 raised fears that the global economic downturn would deal a blow to 2009 and 2010 tourist visits, with a booking rate down from 30% the year before to 5%

Dakar, the capital city of Senegal, is located at the not only on  westernmost tip of the country on the Cap-Vert peninsula but also western most point in Africa or let me say westermost port in Eastern Hemisphere. About 300 miles off the coast, in the Atlantic Ocean, lie the Cape Verde Islands. During colonial times, numerous trading Counters, belonging to various colonial empires were established along the coast. The town of St Louis became the capital of French Western Africa (Afrique Occidentale Francaise, or AOF) before it was moved to Dakar in 1902. Dakar later became its capital in 1960 at the time of independence from France.
Dakar in recent days is known to world because of Football which is without any doubt favourite sport in almost whole of Africa and the other main event world recognizes is due DAKAR CAR RALLY.
The race originated in 1978, a year after racer Thierry Sabine got lost in the desert and decided that it would be a good location for a regular rally. Originally, the rally was from Paris, France to Dakar, Senegal, interrupted by a transfer across the Mediterranean. However, due to politics and other factors, the course, including origin and destination, has varied over the years. Dakar has been the destination city on all but four occasions during the period the rally was held in Africa (i.e. not including 2009 onwards). The rally began at Paris each year until 1995. In 1994 the rally both began and ended in Paris, but due to complaints by the mayor, the finish had to be moved from the Champs-Élysées to Euro Disney. This also caused the organisation to lay out the rally through different locations in following years.
Female sex tourism for love or money? In a series of stories, GlobalPost looks at the women of means who find “romance” on vacation from Jamaica to  to West Africa. DAKAR, Senegal — Women — often white, European and “of a certain age” — flock solo to Senegal’s shores year-round for what one hotel manager called “the three ‘S’s: sun, sea and sex.”
The growth of Senegal’s female sex tourism has its roots in poverty and the lack of jobs for the country’s young men. Senegal’s unemployment for youths is estimated at 30 percent, according to the International Labor Organization, and the average person in Senegal earns about $3 a day, according to the World Bank.“It’s a question of survival. Life is hard. If I didn’t have these women, I’d be struggling,” said Moussa, a 31-year-old dreadlocked drum player who has been “dating” female tourists since 2003.
Today DAKAR is host to around 3million people. Its  fast growing economy is due its location at Atlantic providing shortest sea routes to Northern ,Central and South America. If you see at the world map earlier its invasions and importance was due same Geographic settings. Most of the slaves were enslaved and then sent to America and Europe through Port of Senegal. This hatred was the main reason that the time they got independence next 40 years had a communist rule.
Besides atrocities  of occupying Europeans and specially the French in Western Africa and specifically in the coastal areas people became more closer to Islam and Muslim population is at a permanent increase In this Muslim Clerics of course played their role but more was because of Slavery issue which created hatred against Christianity as the occupation forces were White Christians who had nothing in them as per Jesus Christ teachings. European colonial powers had different set of rules for their nationals protecting their rights and usurping those of others and enslaving them. The people of this region were most affected as not they only were enslaved but they saw ships being loaded with slaves being sent to America where Noble Sons of Christianity needed people to work for them without claiming any rights. There were conversions to Christianity as well as special rights were given to the people who joined their masters but even today in Western Africa Religion of land is still Islam.
The religion of Senegal is predominantly Muslim, with up to 90% of the population practising the basic tenets of Islam. The remaining 10% is made up of Christians and those that practice traditional religions, with many combining the latter two. Senegal is very tolerant of all religions however, and is essentially a secular country – a legacy of its French colonial past.
Islam came to West Africa from the north and across the Sahara in the early part of the second millennium and quickly became a commanding influence with most of the local populace converting. Islam was brought to the Senegambia region by the Marabouts, religious figures traditionally from the Maghreb area of Northern Africa.
In the Islamic religion every believer has a direct relationship with Allah but because the societies of North and West Africa were so rigidly hierarchical it made more sense to have certain religious leaders all ascribed with divine power providing access to the godhead. Brotherhoods would then grow up around certain Marabouts, many of whom would come to be revered as saints. The Qadiriya brotherhood was one of the first to reach Senegal and spread across the country in the 19th century and is still widely followed today, mostly by the Mandinka people. It is true that in many cases the term has lost some of its historical meaning and is now applied to anyone who leads a certain kind of devotedly Islamic life, so you will see Marabouts all over Senegal, clothed in traditional dress robes and leading a spare, ascetic life.

There are many hundreds of localised religions in West Africa and these are generally centred around an idea of animism, or that any animal, plant or object has a soul or spirit and should be treated as such. This can mean that certain areas or places are considered sacred and possessed of spirits – or indeed by the souls of ancestors – and it is common to see offerings to these spirits (sometimes even called deities) left in the form of incense or flowers.
