Lagos-The Nigeria Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) on Thursday cleared Arik Air for flight operations after it paid N50 million as navigational charges.
The agency on Wednesday had stopped Arik from flying to compel it to comply with the new payment system for terminal and en-route navigational charges introduced sometime ago.
NAMA introduced the ‘Pay-As-You-Go’ system for its services because most airlines had in the past defaulted in making payments, thereby rendering it financially incapacitated.
The incident resulted in many Arik passengers, including those travelling abroad, being stranded at the airport on Wednesday.
The Air Traffic Controllers immediately gave the airline clearance to fly as soon as NAMA notified it of the payment
Meanwhile, the airline in a statement apologised to its passengers for the inconvenience caused by the disruption of flights.
“The airline has put the incidence of Wednesday behind it,” said Arik Air Chris Ndulue.
